Helping women on their journey to health and wellness is not Hannah Strauss’s job. It’s her passion. “It’s amazing what the female body can do,” she says. “I’m here to support my patients through every aspect of their care, providing what they need to remain healthy and strong.”
Strauss earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She is licensed as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Midwife.
She believes it’s important to dispel the myth that the focus of midwifery is only on helping women through childbirth. Yes, she cares for them during labor and delivery, but her responsibility is to women’s health throughout the lifespan. She specializes in women’s health, ranging from basic gynecological services, preventive screenings, reproductive health, post-partum care and beyond.
She also believes in the power of the patient-provider relationship. “I appreciate the humanity of medicine,” she says. “If you make a meaningful connection with your patients, you can create lifelong bonds. I have developed relationships with my patients, they enjoy coming back to see me and that just validates the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect.”
Having taught undergraduates at her alma mater, Strauss understands the value of education and the need to connect with people on their level. Often she uses visual aids, showing examples on the computer to make sure patients understand their diagnosis and the role they play in their own care. “I’ve done right by my patients if I leave with them feeling more confident and educated about their own health than they were when they first walked into the room,” she says. “They should feel empowered to make educated decisions about what’s going on with their bodies.”
